What is acid reflux?

acid reflux

Acidity/acid reflux is also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In this condition, the acid in the stomach comes into the esophagus. This happens when there is a malfunction in the valve that separates the stomach from the esophagus. You will feel a burning sensation in the chest and throat.

How does yoga help combat acid reflux?

Regular practice of yoga strengthens the digestive system and ensures the proper functioning of all the organs. It also improves the circulation of blood in the area, which means fresh oxygen and better nutrient absorption.

Yoga Asanas :

Marjariasana (Cat Pose)

This asana is always done in combination with the Bitilasana. They work on the core and also benefit the spine and the abdomen. Practicing this asana enhances blood circulation and massages the digestive organs. This will give you instant relief from acidity.

Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog Pose)

yoga for acid reflux

This asana is not an extreme fold like the uttanasana and is thus safe to practice. The weight of the body is shifted to the arms and legs when you do the Downward Dog Pose. This eases the center. This asana also helps to oxygenate your abdomen, which relieves the burning sensation.

Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist Pose)

yoga for acidity

A twist is the best detox you can give your system. It flushes out toxins and increases blood circulation. This, in turn, oxygenates your digestive system and reduces acidity.

Balasana (Child’s Pose)

yogasanas for acid reflux

The Balasana is a restorative pose. It relaxes the system and relieves bouts of acidity. When you are in this asana, your abdominal organs are also massaged and strengthened.

Virabhadrasana II (Half Spinal Twist Pose)

acid reflux

A twist is the best detox you can give your system. It will help releasing your toxins out of your body at a better pace. Thus increases your blood circulation and oxygen to your digestive system. This also helps in relieving your acidity.
